Educational Programs

2/28/2022 NOTE:

Due to Covid, our educational programs are on hold. We are currently focusing on rescuing animals from our homes.

We hope to bring these programs back in the future.

Overview

Our educational programs are an exciting opportunity for us to work with members of our community to teach children about animals.  Our programs are currently focused in three areas:  animals, animal rescue, and animal conservation.  Our presentations can be tailored by grade level for grades K-12.  Each presentation generally takes about an hour.

The primary goals for our educational program are:
  1. Teaching children that learning about, and working with, different species can be fun and rewarding
  2. Teaching children to respect and care for the animal population of the world
  3. Teaching children (age-appropriate) ways in which they can help or become involved.

Presentation Components

Depending on the grade level and the needs of the teacher, our presentations can contain different elements.  These include:
  • Live animals
FLR Animal Ambassadors participate in these programs.  Note that the date of the scheduled program will determine which Animal Ambassadors are likely to (or can) attend.  Our ambassadors are lovingly cared for by members of our board of directors who live in different locations with very different daily schedules.
  • Discussion of the animals' habits, diets, how best to handle them, and their care
  • Discussion of animal rescue
  • Discussion of animal conservation
The children will learn about the importance of conservation, and why bees and butterflies are so important to nature.
  • Posters - with visual aids appropriate to the grade level
  • Videos of the animals in their habitat (their forever homes)
We also provide materials for the children to take home to encourage their love of animals, such as:
  • Coloring book pages
  • Brochures/flyers for each species discussed in the presentation
  • Stickers
  • Conservation-friendly seed papers
For older students, we could include current topics of interest, such as:
  • Legislation regarding animal protection
  • Transporting animals across state and country boundaries
  • Protecting animal habitats worldwide
If requested (and parental permission is obtained), we will take pictures of the children beside a presenter holding an animal, and send copies of the pictures to the teacher.

Cost

We do not charge for our educational programs.  However, Fierce Love Rescue is a nonprofit organization and donations are always welcome.
