Fundraising Policy
FLR's Fundraising Policy can be summarized as follows:
Money earmarked for a specific purpose will be used for that purpose. FLR raises money in a variety of ways. These include:
- Direct donations
- Matching donations by donors' companies
- Grants
- Fundraising campaigns
Regardless of the way in which money is raised, we adhere strictly to the idea that funds are to be used solely for the purpose(s) for which they were raised. Typically the funds we raise will go into a "general purpose" fund that we will use at our discretion. However, sometimes funds are earmarked for specific purposes, for example a donor may wish to sponsor a specific animal, a granting organization may award a grant just for supplies, and so on.
You might wonder what happens when money is raised for a specific purpose (e.g., medical procedures such as spay or neuter or sponsoring a specific animal) and we raise more money than we actually need. In that case, we will do the following:
- Post on Facebook that the fundraising goal has been reached.
- Place any excess funds raised in our general purpose fund.
- Suggest that individuals still wanting to donate, donate through our general donation feature (on the FLR website or the FLR Facebook page).
Our guarantee to you is the following:
- When money is donated or raised through a campaign for a specific purpose, we will use that money for that purpose AND if there is an overage, we will move that money to our general purpose fund.
- If money is awarded through a grant, we will use that money solely for the purpose intended by the granting organization.
