Gibbs is an 11-month-old German Shepherd who was rescued from a backyard breeder in Virginia. He is small for a GSD his age at around 50lbs, likely due to malnourishment and being fed cat food his whole life.

He is as sweet as can be and loves everyone he meets. Gibbs was very timid when first rescued, but now he proudly walks through the neighborhood and is gaining confidence! In his foster home, he has done wonderfully with sleeping in his crate and going potty outside. He even stood still for a bath! Gibbs is also a very good house guest and hasn’t tried to chew anything up despite his young age.

Gibbs was very under-socialized and had never even been to a vet before. He is now fully vetted, neutered, and all of his bloodwork was negative!

As Gibbs has gained confidence, he is much more comfortable being around other dogs. He is non-reactive to dogs we see on walks and is comfortable around the resident GSD in his foster home. He is still very much so a puppy though and can be ‘annoying’ while trying to play with more mature and relaxed dogs. Gibbs lives with two cats in the foster home and is friendly with them both. He is engages with them in a playful puppy manner and still needs correction when getting excited, but does not show any signs of wanting to hurt the cats.

Gibbs is an adolescent GSD that didn’t have any training prior to being rescued, so he would do best with an experienced handler that is willing to work with him to build basic manners and obedience. He is very food driven and takes corrections nicely. Due to his excitability and jumping, it’s recommended that he goes to a home with older children that he won’t knock over.

His favorite things to do are EAT and cuddle on the couch. Gibbs also loves playing with tennis balls in the backyard. He will make an amazing addition to a family looking for a fun dog to spoil and show him how great life can be!
